Palau Güell
A palace designed and built by Antoni Gaudí between 1886 and 1890, commissioned by Eusebi Güell and located on Carrer Nou de la Rambla in Barcelona. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. Conceived during the architect’s youth, this building establishes the foundational principles of Gaudí’s architecture, which would become visible in his later masterpieces.
In 1994, the interior walls of Palau Güell were analyzed in a first Chromatic Study, uncovering the specific color distribution that Gaudí had chosen for the rooms. Subsequently, between 2005 and 2011, the meticulous restoration carried out by the Local Architectural Heritage Service of the Barcelona Provincial Council (Diputació de Barcelona) required a comprehensive preliminary analysis and study of the entire palace. Our Chromatic Studies characterized, among other areas, all the ornamental features (including gilding and metalwork) in Mrs. Güell’s Bedroom and the Main Floor Hall. We also analyzed all the interior woodwork and coffered ceilings, determining the specific typologies, color schemes, and finishing varnishes for all wood elements, as well as the party wall featuring the Romantic Fountain.
These preliminary studies provided essential technical data to support the monumental restoration of Gaudí’s Palau Güell.
