Ciutat Vella
After the Eixample Color Plan, in 1992 the Ciutat Vella Color Plan was delivered. It consisted of the analysis of the constructive constants from the 16th to the 19th century: its finishing techniques, composition, colors, accumulated pathologies and ornamentation. Throughout this broad period, all the sgraffitos of Ciutat Vella were studied exhaustively, predominant during the 18th century in the Baroque style. A selective review of the Heritage Catalogue was established for all of them based on their historical-artistic interest and the recommended level of intervention. In collaboration with the District and the Department of Heritage, we designed and coordinated, between 1997 and 1999, the European subsidy program “Raphael: “Recovery of Baroque Sgraffitos” which allowed us to compare techniques with other European cities and establish criteria for scientific restoration on the facades of the District. With this research, a “Historic Colour Chart of Ciutat Vella” was obtained and a methodology and action protocols (chromatic and historical studies, sampling documentation, “in situ” tests, traditional materials and techniques, etc.) that have been included in the current Municipal Ordinances (ORPIMO 2011) and in the Reports of the Department of Architectural, Historical and Artistic Heritage of Barcelona City Council.
