Figueres - 2009

The Color Master Plan and Chromatic Guidelines for the Comprehensive Intervention Plan of Figueres was delivered to the City Council in May 2010. The core objective was to define a scientifically validated color chart and establish facade restoration guidelines within the framework of the 2009 Neighborhoods Plan (Pla de Barris). This initiative involved surveying an urban area of 25 hectares, classifying building typologies, identifying their original historical colors, and documenting how color schemes were combined across different architectural elements. The resulting palette comprised 56 colors, which were integrated into the municipal urban planning regulations alongside a manual of best practices.

A cornerstone of this project was the petrographic and chromatic characterization of the local Figueres stone. This analysis evaluated the material based on its traditional masonry surface finishes—whether rough-hewn, bush-hammered, or polished—as well as its natural patination and weathering process over time.
