Girona

Girona - 2000

Girona was a pioneer in the use of color through the restoration of its façades along the Onyar River, but the City Council also commissioned us to develop a set of Urban Landscape Regulations for the entire historic district. These regulations establish guidelines for the treatment of facades according to the architectural typology of the old town, from Gothic to Noucentism styles. For the first time, the regulations specified not a particular type of paint, but rather its performance requirements and tolerance ranges, including characteristics such as waterproofing, breathability, texture, gloss, and others. In addition to paints and stuccoes, the built landscape of this city is also defined by its native limestone. The fact that local quarries were still in operation helped us identify its petrographic characteristics, aging processes, and the influence of different surface finishes on its coloration.

The Girona Color Chart is strongly conditioned by the need to harmonize with the wide range of tones found in the local nummulitic limestone.
