Mataró
Mataró features an extensive historic urban center (160 hectares) bounded by the Rondes (outer ring roads) and the sea. The Municipal Planning Department sought to establish a Color Master Plan for this area to complement both the 1996 General Urban Development Plan (PGOU) and the 1999 Special Heritage Protection Plan. By applying our proprietary methodology, we thoroughly analyzed the entire building census, classifying it according to street morphology and architectural typologies. This allowed us to establish specific color harmonization recommendations that respect and preserve the original architectural composition of each structure. Mataró boasts a long-standing tradition of sgraffito murals, meticulously crafted by local artists and master plasterers over generations. Our study specifically aimed to document and honor the legacy of the “Alsina” lineage of master plasterers, recognizing their immense historical contribution to the beautification of the urban landscape. Reflecting this unique heritage, the resulting local palette prominently features the distinctive pink and orange earth tones characteristic of Mataró’s traditional stuccos and sgraffito work.
