The study area encompasses 20 hectares, spanning from the ancient 18th-century walled enclosure surrounding the Church of Sant Julià, to its historical extension along Hospital Street, the 19th-century Raval (suburb), and the 20th-century Eixample (urban expansion).

Given the lack of specific guidelines regarding facade colors and finishes in the 2009 POUM (Municipal Urban Development Master Plan), and with the revision of the “Special Heritage Protection Plan” being underway by the team led by Jordi Rogent, a rigorous and scientific study on the original facade finishes and local construction materials of L’Arboç was urgently required.

The local chromatic identity is heavily influenced by the abundant use of a calcitic limestone, whose natural coloring ranges from bright white to warm ochre. This stone, easily carved and widely used for architectural ornamentation, is highly prone to alveolization (honeycomb weathering) due to its internal fossil concretions. Our research deduced that the whiter variety originates from the quarries of La Gornal and La Clariana, while the yellower tones come from Castellet and Bellvei (Calafell). Once the characterization of the stone was complete, the chromatic study was expanded to analyze all traditional renderings, stuccos, sgraffito work, exterior woodwork, and architectural metalwork.

The final master plan established a regulatory framework with precise combination guidelines for the 38 colors of the local palette, along with recommended materials, textures, and treatments for restoration works—defining everything from specific mortar mix ratios to reasoned, sustainable intervention criteria. Following its delivery, our team also provided continuous technical consulting for the primary publicly subsidized restoration projects.

[27
post-4450","portfolio","type-portfolio","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","portfolio_category-color-plans
["GET
